About this car
Families tend to end up in the Hyundai Tucson 2021. It has the same all-wheel-drive layout as the Sportage but rides a little softer, which matters on the fourth hour of a drive with children in the back. Comfortable to rent for a week or two in Georgia, easy in Tbilisi traffic, and unfussy on the broken tarmac outside the cities.
Five seats and a boot for three bags. The 2.0 litre petrol engine and automatic gearbox return about 8.7 litres per 100 km. All-wheel drive with decent clearance covers Kazbegi, Gudauri, the Kakheti back roads and the paved road to Mestia; the rough track on to Ushguli is one for the proper 4x4s.
A week with the Tucson comes with two extra days on us, and two weeks with five, which is how most family loops through Georgia are planned. Full cover with zero excess is an optional extra, useful when more than one person will be driving.
