Subaru Forester
Crossover · 2015 · from $45 / day
About this car
Plenty of Georgians drive a Subaru Forester to their village every weekend, and the black 2015 shows why. It is a fourth-generation car with roof rails, upright and easy to see out of, with enough ground clearance to shrug off the broken asphalt of rural Kakheti and Racha.
Five seats, five doors and three large bags. The 2.5 litre boxer engine with a CVT automatic uses about 8.5 litres per 100 km. Subaru's permanent all-wheel drive is at its best on gravel and snow: Juta, the Truso valley, Gudauri in January. There is no low range, so the Abano Pass to Tusheti stays off the list.
Pay for three days and the fourth is free, enough for a quick Kazbegi run with a night in Stepantsminda. Basic insurance and unlimited mileage inside Georgia come with every rental.
